In London's merciless housing market, Fiona and Jason are days from eviction, crushed by impossible rents and a private battle with infertility. The bailiff finds almost nothing worth taking: a teapot, a typewriter, a painting.

Homeless, they endure a humiliating circuit of viewings, grilled by oddballs, fleeced by estate agents, stripped of what dignity they had left.

Fiona reclaims what was hers from an eBay listing: a replacement teapot, sold by an elderly man alone in a house he bought for peanuts in the eighties, now worth a million.
